How do you know if cashmere is real?

Determining if cashmere is real can be a bit tricky, but there are several methods you can use to help identify authentic cashmere:

Fiber Inspection:Real cashmere should feel incredibly soft and luxurious to the touch. It's generally finer, lighter, and softer than sheep's wool. Take a close look at the fibers - they should be very fine and should not feel coarse or prickly against your skin.

Label Checking:Check the label on the garment. Legitimate cashmere products will typically indicate that they are made from 100% cashmere. Be wary of labels that say "cashmere blend" or have vague descriptions, as they may contain other materials mixed in with the cashmere.

Price:Authentic cashmere is a luxury material and tends to be more expensive than synthetic or lower-quality alternatives. If the price seems too good to be true, it's possible that the product is not genuine cashmere.

Burn Test:This method should be used with caution as it can damage the fabric. Take a few fibers from the garment and burn them. Real cashmere will smell like burnt hair and form a small, wool-like ash. If it smells like plastic or chemicals and forms hard, synthetic beads, it's likely not real cashmere.

Pilling:Cashmere is prone to pilling, which is the formation of small balls of fiber on the surface of the fabric. If the garment doesn't pill at all, it may not be real cashmere. However, keep in mind that some manufacturers may treat their cashmere to reduce pilling.

Brand Reputation:Purchase from reputable brands or retailers known for their quality cashmere and pashmina products. Established brands are more likely to adhere to strict quality standards and provide authentic cashmere.

Feel the Weight: Cashmere is warm and lightweight. If the garment feels too heavy or stiff, it may not be genuine cashmere.

Check the Weave:Cashmere fibers are very fine, so the weave should be tight and even. If you can see through the fabric easily or if it looks uneven, it might not be real cashmere.
